Swallow Wines is a winery offering an approachable, elegant, and enjoyable wine tasting experience, providing a safe space for customers to explore something new. We have the privilege of sourcing directly from out-of-state wineries, eliminating the need for a third-party distributor or broker. Swallow Wines maintains direct connections with 19 California winemakers, enabling us to gain insights into their craft and share their vision.
Swallow Wines originated from a mutual desire to capture our annual visits with passionate California winemakers and to share those priceless experiences with everyone we know.
Swallows are social birds that tend to gather and nest together. Wine tasting is a social experience, best shared with friends. Barn Swallows also represent rebirth or new beginnings. Swallow Wines is a rebirth for us, leaving our corporate careers of 20+ years in software technology and retail management to chart a new course and dream of owning a winery.
Our Story
At Swallow Wines, the story of our passion begins with Gabe and Matt Ellis, both natives of Texas. Matt grew up in the charming town of Dilley, nestled in South San Antonio, while Gabe's childhood memories were formed in Horizon City, a suburb just east of El Paso.
20 years ago, they first met online through Yahoo Personals in 2003 while Matt lived in San Antonio and Gabe was in Austin. They have been together ever since and married for 10 years, become cherished members of the Round Rock community, where they have proudly resided for the past 15 years and pet parents of two Corgi's (Norman and Günther), and a rescued Russian Blue cat, Etta (also answers to Chiquita).
Throughout their wine journey, Matt and Gabe have had the privilege of forging meaningful relationships with talented California winemakers. These extraordinary individuals have not only become their mentors and teachers but have also played a crucial role in shaping the creation of Swallow Wines. It's a genuine partnership, where winery meets winery, as they learn from these skilled individuals who have been crafting exceptional wines for years.
With a combined wealth of 15 years of wine expertise, both Matt and Gabe are seasoned professionals in the world of wine. They have honed their skills and knowledge over the years, making them true connoisseurs in their field. Matt is a licensed Sommelier from National Wine School, while Gabe is currently in the process of becoming a licensed Sommelier through the same institution. Their deep dedication to the craft, coupled with their genuine love for wine, infuse Swallow Wines with a distinct and exciting essence.
